But despite being an industrial town, St Helens has always managed to retain its natural beauty and character. The town has preserved several large parks, which offer pleasant views and fresh air. |
The inevitable advancement of technology often means relocation of industry and sometimes the closure of factories. But local firms have never forgotten their responsibility to the community; many, such as Pilkington Glass, have put millions of pounds into the redevelopment of post-industrial areas... |

Though much of the heavy industry has now left the town, the people of St Helens remain very conscious of their heritage. And with the new 'World of Glass' museum, the town is looking forward to a new post-industrial millennium while remaining firmly rooted in the past. |
